                Well-Being Advocacy • 1989 to Present

While the need for childhood fitness has been recognized academically for generations, the current obesity crisis in children appears to justify the long years I spent developing these two books.

“Animal Exercise Fun” was first published as “Kids‘ Animal Exercise Fun.” The process involved three years of research and application including: child development, the publishing market, health, fitness, business planning, demographics, advertising, public speaking. This culminated in Small World Press, where I was the managing partner for ten years from 1989 to 1999.

In an effort to integrate movement into the elementary education curriculum, my next book, co-authored with an expert in the field, Dr. Rhonda Clements, was titled, “Moving To Discover: The USA.” This social studies playbook for K. thru 3rd grades was published nationally by Human Kinetics Publishers of Champaign, IL, a leader in health and sports publishing.

After an eight year hiatus, I have revised the program, and created the  AnimalExerciseFun.org web site as a means to promote childhood health.

Kootenai Shoshone Area Library District • 1995 to 2008

13 years applying information technology in the community through research, library promotion, children’s programming and grant writing.

I implemented a wide range of programs at the Rathdrum Library including:

• Puppet making and performance with middle school students

• Teen mom outreach at the alternative school

• After-school programs

• Creative photography for teens

• Drawing classes

• Community reading promotional posters

• Summer reading outreach and promotions

• The award winning “TAP” teen video project

3 for 3 writing grants for the library including (TAP) the Teen Advisory Panel video grant to develop a digital video production studio at the library. TAP taught still photo and video skills to teenagers while getting them involved in advocacy for the library and other nonprofit organizations in our area.

Environmental Activism • 1986 to Present

Founder: Friends of Bayview

Over the course of two years I successfully wrote administrative appeals to the US Forest Service while organizing a media and public relations campaign to stop logging on Scenic Bernard Peak adjacent to Farragut State Park on the south end of Lake Pend Oreille. My mountain still stands mostly uncut.

Founder: Pend Oreille Watershed Review

This 18 month action involved an administrative appeal to the US Navy which resulted in a $250,000  E.I.S. performed by the University of Idaho to  determine the effects of naval acoustic research on declining fish populations in Lake Pend Oreille.

Founder: FarragutPark.org

Successful in organizing the Bayview Chamber of Commerce, private citizens and Kootenai Environmental Alliance to prevent logging of the shoreline and the construction of the Lakeshore RV Park at Farragut State Park on the South end of Lake Pend Oreille.

My research was the catalyst for the formation of CARE (Citizens Against Range Expansion) a two year fight that stopped the development of a NRA tournament shooting range in Farragut State Park.

Environmental Art, Design & Construction • 1980 to Present

A Lifetime of Education  • 1955 to Present

I was raised on a farm in the Inland Northwest by an unrequited artist, intellectual, and dreamer of a mother and a kick-ass, logger dad. Both taught me that I could do anything that I needed or wanted to do if I put my mind and body to the task.

Daydreaming my way through school was acceptable back then.

After two years of college I was bitten by the experiential learning bug and set about a life of independent scholarship.

This I Believe . . .

There is no mystery

Only forgotten history

Life has one test

When there is need, do your best
Love is an act of symbiotic giving

This is the purpose of living

God is Universal to us all

Truth responds to our call

Faith and hope make sense

If practiced without false pretense

Spirit resides in intuition

Spawning a creative ambition

To seek a positive solution

Through progressive human evolution
