PreSchool-Grade 2—Thirty-one short, simple verses in rhyming stanzas feature familiar animals and insects at play: worms wiggling, ants marching to work, dogs running, dolphins swimming, rabbits bunny-hopping, and more. Unfortunately, the pale, whimsical illustrations are lackluster, and neither they nor the rhymes have enough vigor to capture readers' interest.—Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, NY

PreSchool-Grade 7-From the full-color cover, to the many interior glossy photographs of children in various yoga positions, this book is appealing to the eye. It is also full of educational recreational activities that combine two things children love-animals and movement. Younger children will especially enjoy imitating the positions and shapes of the various animals, plants, and objects that appear in the large photographs throughout the volume. Beginning with the easiest exercises and progressing to the more difficult, the instructions and descriptions are brief but clear. The physical benefits of the poses are stated and the few positions not recommended for children under six are noted. Various ethnic groups and boys and girls are shown practicing. Both children and adults will appreciate this treasure. Luby makes exercising seem like fun.

*Starred Review* PreS-Gr. 3. There aren't many books that make human physiology accessible to preschoolers. Rockwell's message is the joy of physical activity, but she also does a great job of connecting exercise with detailed information about the body and how it works. The design is clear and inviting: first are bright, colorful spreads of kids busy on scooters and rollerblades, running, stretching, catching and throwing in the park; then come full-page diagrams of skeletons, clearly labeled and packed with exciting scientific facts. One page shows kids using their muscles on a bar; opposite is a diagram of the body's muscles, from biceps and ligaments to the Achilles tendon. One page describes "your incredible brain," which sends messages at lightning speed along wire-thin fibers called nerves; opposite is an anatomical diagram of the brain. The lungs, the heart and blood vessels, and the stomach and intestines get the same treatment. In an afterword to adults, Rockwell talks about the problem of overweight children and makes an enthusiastic pitch for healthy physical fun. Doing the activities on these pages is certainly a place to start. Hazel Rochman

Product Description
A celebration of the amazing human machine and a life on the move!
Your amazing body can jump, sprint, twist, and twirl. Your body is built to move.
Lizzy Rockwell explains how your bones and muscles, heart and lungs, nerves and brain all work together to keep you on the go. Kids walk and skate and tumble through these pages with such exuberance that even sprouting couch potatoes will want to get up and bounce around—and that’s the ultimate goal. Studies show that American kids are becoming more sedentary and more overweight and that they carry these tendencies with them into adolescence and adulthood. Experts agree that we need to help kids make physical activity a life-long habit. Through education, information, and encouragement, this book aims to inspire a new generation of busy bodies!

Product Description
The Yoga Adventure for Children is an illustrated manual for teachers at primary schools and yoga teachers who wish to create children's classes. Featuring 80 drawings of poses, the book playfully acquaints children with yoga stretches and postures and the philosophy behind the practice. Blending yoga, play, dance, music, drama, and drawing, the book requires very little preparation before use. Parents too can share The Yoga Adventure for Children with their child at home. Practicing yoga together offers an opportunity to both parents and the child to laugh, play, and have fun together.
Many yoga positions are inspired by animals and stimulate suppleness and strength, and all aspects of yoga are included in the games: relaxation, breathing, concentration, meditation, self-awareness, and visualization. Concepts like karma, chakra, and the elements are explained and developed without too much confusing detail. The games in this book can also be used to increase children's concentration and self-esteem, and to stimulate them to express more creativity, imagination, and better social skills.

As America has grown into a heavier, more sedentary nation, so have its kids.
20 millionon--fully one-quarter--of American children are overweight, with 11% severely obese.
36% of our children aged 2 to 19 have high cholesterol.
66% of 5- to 17-year-olds fail to meet minimum fitness criteria.
Knowing what he does about the connection between diet, exercise, and health, lay expert Joseph C. Piscatella is alarmed. Author of Don't Eat Your Heart Out Cookbook and other books for adults with over 2 million copies in print, Mr. Piscatella now turns to motivating parents to reverse the dangerous trend of overweight, out-of-shape kids. A compelling, comprehensive source book and diet and exercise guide, Fat-Proof Your Child spells out the whys of the problemo--from too much fast food to too much television, diminishing Phys Ed programs to inexcusably fatty school lunches--then offers easy-to-implement solutions that will get not only kids but also parents back on the right track.
Here are 7 Basics that will improve a child's food habits; the Activity Pyramid for children and adolescents; up-to-date research on fat, sugar, salt, and fiber; and, from his wife, Bernie, over 100 recipes that modify favorite family dishes.
